Nestled in the heart of Washington Township, Avon, Indiana is roughly 14 square miles.  However, even though this community is smaller in size compared to surrounding areas, it is still prime spot for Indianapolis real estate.  Avon, once known as Hampton, New Philadelphia, Smootsdale, and White Lick, is growing rapidly.  Back in 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that this community had a population of 6,268 people.  Ten years later, that figure nearly doubled with the U.S. Census Bureau recording 12,446 residents.

Why Are People Heading to Avon?

Avon has the warmth of a small town, but all the conveniences of a larger city.  In this area, there is no shortage of major retailers.  Residents have easy access to Target, Wal Mart, Barnes and Noble, and a few Starbucks.  There is also no shortage of great restaurants.  Whether people are in the mood for a mouth-watering steak at Charbonos or ice cream on a hot day at Frost Bite, they have plenty of satiating options to choose from. 

This particular area of Indiana is also quite scenic.  For example, Avon Town Hall Park is over 82 acres and has a plethora of walking trails, a lake and two ponds for fishing, and even an 18 hole golf course.  Families with children will also appreciate that the park has a total of three playgrounds.  The largest park in Avon, Washington Township Park, also has playgrounds, shelters, fun bike trails, basketball courts, and more.  With so much variety, both indoor and outdoor enthusiasts will love the activities and amenities of this growing community.

Amazing Schools

Avon is home to amazing schools and the infamous Avon High School marching band which is recognized nationally.  The public schools in this area are part of the Avon Community School Corporation system which is comprised of two high schools, two middle schools, two intermediate schools, and seven elementary schools.  Those looking for private education can choose from Kingsway Christian School (grades K-8) and Our Shepard Lutheran School (grades K-8).
