Pumpkin Spice is to Fall, as Andrew Luck is to the Colt...wait, too soon?
Over the past decade, Pumpkin Spice has all but become the official face of Fall’s Annual Campaign to be elected Best Season.
But here at RE/MAX Advanced Realty and The Indy Home Pros Team, we wanted to know WHY Pumpkin Spice is so popular with hipsters and soccer moms alike. Stay tuned for more info on that.
To better understand why Pumpkin Spice has captured America’s collective heart through its collective stomach, we must first understand its history. Just kidding.
No way we are going to bore you with its entire history; we might as well put a “click here to go back to whatever you were doing before you started reading this” button.
BUT! According to the History Channel, people have been using variations of Pumpkin Spice for roughly 3,500 years! The combination of spices listed below, nutmeg in particular, have been found in ancient pots in Indonesia, the Middle East, and Northern Africa.
So, what exactly is in this “pumpkin spice” concoction? That is what we wanted to get to the bottom of---Starbucks lists the official ingredients of the PSL Spice component (Pumpkin Spice Latte) as…..
Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves; (the trifecta common to most Pumpkin Spice related items around the country being cinnamon, nutmeg, clove). The non-spice flavoring ingredients include some pumpkin puree and other interesting ingredients.
Okay let’s break these ingredients down because you didn’t ask--the following ingredients as defined by Merriam Websters:--------
Cinnamon: - the aromatic, dried bark of any of several tropical trees (genus Cinnamomum) yielding a culinary spice, oil, and flavoring
Ginger: - a thickened pungent aromatic rhizome that is used as a spice and sometimes medicinally
Nutmeg: - an aromatic seed produced by an evergreen tree (Myristica fragrans of the family Myristicaceae, the nutmeg family) native to the Moluccas
Allspice: - the berry of a West Indian tree (Pimenta dioica) of the myrtle family
Clove: - the dried flower bud of a tropical tree (Syzygium aromaticum synonym Eugenia aromatica) of the myrtle family that is used as a spice and is the source of an oil
How cool are those? And, most importantly, each time you sip that PSL from now on, you can impress your friends and say things like, “Wow! That nutmeg truly complements the allspice….and (pause for effect) if I’m not mistaken, am I getting hints of...clove?!”
Now, you may see one very interesting item that is left out of the Pumpkin Spice Latte ingredients...what is it now…hmm...oh that's right, PUMPKIN?!
Is pumpkin just being exploited for its popular and likable nature and figure?
Fear not, Starbucks officially lists on it’s PSL ingredients a tiny amount of “Pumpkin Puree”. While all of the other flavors carry the drink and are surely the stars, you can rest assured knowing there’s at least a lil bit of pumpkin in that item that you’ll undoubtedly order way too many of this beautiful fall season.

“Our food is still prepared the same way as it is in Japan; utilizing a unique method of roasting bones before boiling, which is similar to the French style of making consommé. We were the first in the Japanese ramen industry to employ this method, which results in a rich, flavorful broth that is fragrant, and full of depth. We are devoted to replicating the incredible flavor of traditional Japanese ramen, and if equal substitutes for ingredients are not found within the US, we import the ingredients directly from Japan.
To provide a full Japanese experience, we fly our designer in from Japan to create every one of our American outlets. We pay attention to every detail of the customer experience– from an open kitchen concept that evokes the atmosphere of a time-honored Japanese ramen shop, caring service reminiscent of Japanese hospitality, to even small details like mouthwash in the restrooms, we go the extra mile to ensure our customers are well taken care of in their dining experience from start to finish.” - Kizuki Ramen & Izayaka
“The Jazz Kitchen opened its doors in 1994 as Indy’s premier destination for jazz and beyond. Recognized as one of the “Top 100 Jazz Clubs in the World” by Downbeat Magazine, The Jazz Kitchen presents a wide variety of local, regional and international jazz artists in an intimate 140 seat supper club style venue. The entire experience would not be complete without our NOLA meets Midwest cuisine. A touch of the “Big Easy” represented by Satchmo’s Etoufee, Not-So-Cajun Chicken, ‘po boys and Crescent City Crab Cakes compliment midwest fresh-from-the-butcher steaks, chops & burgers. Fresh seafood, vegetarian faire and decadent desserts make for the perfect night out.” - The Jazz Kitchen

“In 1720, when our ancestor Joseph Decuis' grandfather came to the New World, people ate only what they hunted, bartered for, raised or bought from someone nearby. Their food traveled from the forest or farm, to the kitchen, to the plate.
Food was a great pleasure in their lives; fresh, natural, healthy, seasonal and delicious. Meals were enjoyed around a table in good company.
But something changed after World War II. In our fast-paced, fast food, factory-farm world, the quality of food and the pleasure of dining have suffered. We are dedicated to keeping the timeless tradition of great local food and fine dining alive.
We credit our love for great food and fine dining to the influence of Joseph Decuis (pronounced day-QUEEZ). He lived in a time when his table was blessed with food from his farm, and dining was the stage for the bonding of family, friends and business associates. Our logo is an artful depiction of his signature as it appeared on his Last Will and Testament in 1822.
Many generations later, we believe in this family tradition so much, we created our own "Farm to Fork" experience. Today, our guests enjoy world-class dining, special events at the Restaurant or on our Farm, and overnight getaways at our Inn in Roanoke or our Bed & Breakfast on the Farm.” - Joseph Decuis
"Vegetarian Cuisine from the Heartland. Indy's favorite vegan lunch counter opened up their first full service restaurant in December 2017. Utilizing a wide variety of plant-based foods and cooking techniques, Three Carrots creates comfort foods that are both familiar and unique. Their scratch approach ensures that everything they serve is fresh and flavorful. Three Carrots has become a staple for vegans and carnivores alike." - 3 Carrots

Planning to sell your home but don't know how to get started? If yes, then you're in the right place!
In this post, you can learn how you can sell your home like a pro.
Acknowledge that all markets are different. What may be a Seller's Market in Indianapolis may be a Buyer's Market in Fort Wayne. Each market is different. Look at homes that have sold in your area. Get a feel of market times. Check various resources such as Realtor.com or Mibor.com for sold information. We recommend getting a home inspection completed prior to listing your home for sale. This will prepare you for any issues that may arise or scare buyers off prior to listing your home. Clean up and clean out! This is one of the most important things to do. Get rid of all that clutter! If you haven't used it or touched it in 6 months then it needs to go! We recommend hiring a home staging expert to get your home organized and ready for market.
Realtor or No Realtor - Sit down and decide which is best for your situation. Some sellers like the "doing the grunt work" approach to selling a home. Some sellers may be experienced in home sales and can do it all on their own. Statistics show that Realtors net home sellers up to 10% more than going at it on their own. Items to consider when considering selling your home are: Title work, Appraisals, Contracts, Disclosures, and Marketing! Selling a home can be a daunting task these days. The days of putting a sign in the yard and advertising in the newspaper are long gone.
If you plan to sell your home FSBO (For Sale by Owner) without using a Realtor this could be another task. Many home sellers base their homes value on the tax assessed value. This can be good or bad. We see many times that the assessed values are much lower than what the market value is. We also see that assessed values can be much higher than what is market value. One recommendation is to get a current home appraisal on your home. If you choose to hire a Realtor they will have all the data available to them to provide to you as the seller on what fair market value may be or often times referred to as (FMV). Your Realtor should be able to show you data form existing homes sales from the last 6 months that will outline the best pricing strategy you should take. Do not overprice your home - this will cause market times to increase and will ultimately cause you to sell your home for less. When homes sit on the market for too long most buyers have the perception that the home has "issues" and this may cause your values to decrease.
We recommend interviewing 3 agents from different companies. Look for an agent that takes an aggressive approach to listing your home. Hiring a full-time sales associate that has local experience is key. In today's marketplace agents and brokers should show you how to leverage internet exposure and syndication. With over 95% of all home buyers finding their dream home online, internet syndication and marketing is a must. Agents should be familiar with social media outlets and internet lead conversions.
Ok, so you have chosen your Realtor and now you have an offer to purchase. What do you do? If you are working with a Real Estate Professional that professional should be able to guide you through the whole process. They will present the offer to you, prepare counter offers, schedule inspections and appraisals, coordinate and order title searches and coordinate the closing process. They should act a as sounding board for all your questions, needs, or concerns.
This is where the fun begins. You may feel relieved or you may feel that your world is caving in on you! Hopefully when preparing your home for sale you got rid of all that stuff you really didn't need, in return this should allow for a smoother moving process. Your Realtor should be able to provide a few recommendations of local movers that can assist. Moving can be a daunting task but planned well it can be a smooth process. During negotiations you may have closed a few days prior to moving. Keep in mind that the new buyers will be excited and eager to move into their new home. We always recommend to our clients to be sure to not leave anything behind and give it a good cleaning for the new homeowners. It always is better to "pay it forward".
Are you going to be hosting Thanksgiving dinner at your house this year? If so, you are probably feeling a bit nervous, excited, and maybe even a little overwhelmed. You are looking to make this special holiday perfect and for all of your guests to be happy and full! Ultimately as much as you try to control things and have every little detail ready there will inevitably be things you miss and aren't thinking of right now. To help relieve some holiday stress here are a few little tips that can make this a holiday to remember.
1. Make a plan to tackle some cleaning: No one wants to host a holiday meal in a dirty or unkempt home. Start brainstorming a list of what needs to be cleaned, fixed, or put away. A list will help you to keep organized as well as keeping you in check for what needs to be done next.
2. Go grocery shopping now!: Don't wait until the last second to pick up your thanksgiving ingredients. Going to the store now is a good way to avoid busy stores full of last minute thanksgiving shoppers. Shopping earlier will make you feel much more relaxed when the week of Thanksgiving comes.
3. Think of the cooking utensils you might need for you and your guests this holiday: Nothing is more annoying than making a full dish and realizing that you don't have the proper plate or platter to serve it on. Before you go out and buy a brand new cooking set make sure you've asked a friend or family member if they have something you could borrow instead of digging in your pocket to buy something brand new.
4. Start cooking: It's never too early to get ahead on Thanksgiving cooking. Thanksgiving meal can be a lot to manage at once, take any opportunity you can to prepare things in advance. A few Thanksgiving food items that can be prepared before the big day include: rolls, cranberry sauce, turkey stock, gravy, and even some simple appetizers are easy to prepare a day or two before hand.
5. Buy some nice smelling candles: Everyone wants their home smelling nice when hosting family and friends. Purchasing candles is a quick way to decorate and set the mood for your holiday. Candles are inexpensive and make a great addition to any Thanksgiving centerpiece.
6. Pick up a fresh bouquet of fall flowers: Flowers make for great centerpieces at the Thanksgiving table. Flowers are also an easy way to bring bright colors and scents into your home.
7. Bust out some games for the kids attending your meal: While the kids aren't eating they will need to be entertained. Pull out the board games from the cupboard and make them accessible to your little guests. Having the kids busy will help you stay busy with your cooking and entertaining.
These are a some the ideas of The Indy Home Pros Team at RE/MAX Advanced Realty and a few ways to make your home holidays ready. Don't stop here, get creative, make lists, and most of all, be prepared!

Selling a home is a very time-consuming job and not that easy to do. This involves creating marketing materials for publicity, conducting showings, attending phone calls from inquirers or potential buyers and processing of the documents. Doing all these would take so much of your energy and can be so stressful especially if you are a first time seller. This is where Realtors can be of great help in selling your home!
Time and Energy. You will be able to save a lot of time because you can instead spend your quality time for your loved ones than attending to tasks involve. You will not be too busy and exhausted in doing your own job as well. In this way, you will gain peace of mind that someone trustworthy is doing the selling for you while not sacrificing too much of your time. Since time can never be turned back, it is very important that we should spend it very wisely and preciously.
Knowledge and Experience. Realtors are like other professionals licensed to perform tasks under their field of specialization. They study the real estate progress of the area they are assigned to, they would know the most appropriate value of your home by going through the details and they can also determine how much the repair cost would be. In time and experiences, real estate agents have figured out their own strategies on how to effectively market a home in certain areas.
Publicity. You can be freed from managing social media accounts which are needed to be attended in a timely manner. You will not be bothered of creating marketing materials such as neighborhood preview and flyers. Showings are also recommended to conduct for the potential buyers to personally experience the ambiance of the home you sell. Publicity is the key to let everyone know about the property you are selling and to come across with potential buyers. Internet is very useful when it comes to communication and information. And by maximizing the advantages it provides, your home will surely be bought in no time.
Administrative Job. Get away from more burdens in processing all the paper works. These papers include the BPO forms, Seller’s Disclosure, Presentation of Offer, etc. Realtors have copies of all the official documents needed and can have them ready for you to just sign and wait a little for the money.
Real estate professionals allow you to keep going with your life without being intervened. They support you with your opinion and suggest things where you can both achieve the goal within the time-frame. This is how beneficial realtors are in selling your home. They have acquired sufficient knowledge, have gained experiences and have all the tools available for an effective home marketing.
Having a home of your own is one of the greatest things you can have in life. It gives you the feeling of success, displays your dignity and provides the comfort you ever wanted. In order to find out the kind of environment you wanted to stay with for a long period of time, here are some things to consider in acquiring the perfect home for you.
- Location. Choosing where to live is a very crucial decision. You might be a nature-lover person and wanted to settle in a place where you can perfectly view the shapes of the mountains, hear the river water flows or the waves of the sea and breathe the clean-fresh air each day. Or perhaps, a person who is into modernized living that maximizes the advantages of the progressing technology wherein almost everything is conveniently available all the time.
- Cost-efficiency. The size of the house should be just right for you and your family to utilize. You do not want to pay a larger tax, bigger electricity and water bills and more expenses for the maintenance of a home that is too big for all of you.
- Community. You might be looking for a beautiful and charming home but you would also want to consider your safety and of your beloved ones. Try to get more information you can about the place you will move into. Learn about the crime rate of the area, the safer way or road to pass especially during late hours and talk to your neighbors to gain consciousness about the place.
- The House Itself. It is strongly recommended that you visit the house before buying it. For you to know how presentable and cozy would it be to live in. It is also to make sure that you will love the home’s both external and internal design, its structures and to be able to estimate the total cost of repairs needed if there are.
These are just some ideas that can help you decide in acquiring the perfect home for you. The Indy Home Pros Team knows all the amenities of each home listed and lets you know of the surroundings for your awareness. So, you would not just live happily and conveniently with your family, but also living all together with safety.
